ZenDXB testing guides

When should you test for an STI?

A fast laboratory result and a well-timed test are different things. Your doctor considers the infection, the sample and the time since a possible exposure.

Two different timelines

Turnaround means the time a service needs to process your sample and return a result. ZenDXB’s rapid 11-panel can return results in as little as four hours after the relevant collection cycle.

A testing window describes the interval after an exposure during which an infection may not yet be detectable by a particular test. A quick turnaround does not remove that window.

If a possible exposure was recent, ask whether an initial test and a later repeat are appropriate. Tell your doctor about symptoms, previous results and any recent treatment.

Why the test method matters: an HIV example

The CDC gives these usual HIV detection windows. They are general reference ranges, not confirmation of the specific assay used for your ZenDXB booking.

HIV test methodUsual window after exposure
Laboratory antigen/antibody test using blood from a vein18–45 days
Antibody test23–90 days
Nucleic acid test (NAT)10–33 days

A negative result obtained during the window period may need repeating. Your doctor should confirm the method, timing and follow-up plan for your situation. Read the CDC testing guidance.

There is no single window for every panel target

STI testing can involve urine, blood or swabs. Different tests answer different questions, and a larger panel does not replace the appropriate sample or timing.

Ask which infections your test is designed to assess and whether additional or repeat samples are appropriate. General internet timelines should not replace the instructions for the laboratory method being used.

When to seek help promptly

A possible HIV exposure within the past 72 hours needs urgent medical assessment for PEP. Seek urgent care now rather than waiting for a routine test booking or result. PEP must be started within that time and earlier is better.

If symptoms are present, contact a doctor for assessment instead of simply waiting for a testing window to end. Our routine panel listings are not an emergency service.
